New Classes at Studieaux Heaux

The new year is bringing so many new things to Studieaux Heaux. We've got a bushel full of new students, maybe you have noticed. We also are bringing on a new instructor and some new classes. Read Below for all the details.

Creative Choreo

Begins January 25th at 11 am

The one thing we lack on our diverse schedule is a class devoted to helping YOU find your own creative dance style. The curriculum points you down the path to creating your own choreography for graduation, and we push you to put together combos, but we don't have one class devoted to giving you the confidence to find your own style. That is where our Creative Choreo class comes into play. Our newest instructor, Robyn, is going to walk you through the process with prompts and music and all sort of creative ideas to get you OUT OF YOUR HEAD and into your body. This class is open to every apparatus, plus the free space for those of you who want to explore chair dance or open floor dancing of any kind. This class will fall on the 4th Saturday of every month.

Sleaux Down: Restorative Sling

This class starts on February 2nd at 5:30 pm

Sunday night classes just seem so HARD. When the Sunday night scaries start to jump on you, who wants to work challenge their brain. "Not, I" said the fly. But...recovery? Rest? Relaxation? Now that is the perfect way to start a busy week. Come join Kiley on Sunday, February 2nd at 5:30 pm for our new Restorative Sling class. This class will be like your favorite aerial yoga class, except the sling is really close to the mat. Instead of pulling yourself into strength positions, your body will be flowing like water into relaxing poses. The lights will be dim. The music soft and relaxing. And you brain and body will float away...or at least that's the goal.

Soar Together: Partner Aerial Sling

This class starts on Saturday, February 8th at 11:00 am

Experience the magic of flight with a partner in this exhilarating and unique aerial arts class! Double sling puts a fun twist to our normal sling class. Double sling uses a two point rig allowing for two people to spin together in their own aerial sling fabrics.

Bring a partner or just yourself. In this dynamic class, you and a partner will learn to spin, swing, and fly through the air using aerial slings.

Expect to:

*Develop trust and connection: Work together to create stunning synchronized movements and beautiful poses.

*Build strength and flexibility: Challenge your bodies with dynamic poses and acrobatic sequences.

*Explore creativity and expression: Develop your own unique choreography and express yourselves through movement.

*Have fun!

This class is a playful and rewarding way to explore aerial arts with a loved one, friend, or classmate.

This class is suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced aerialists.

Body (+) Language: Wildflowers

This workshop is on February 25th from 1 pm - 3:15 pm

Come join Studieaux Heaux and MFA Lana Perez in an immersive creative writing and dance experience. Rooted in Lana's love of expressing herself through poetry, this workshop will take you an a journey from easy writing prompts, to deeper work and then translating your words into movement or future inspiration for performance choreography. This session will center around the imagery of wildflowers, right in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. Come express express a little love with your pen and body! All apparatuses will be available to explore.

This class is open to anyone. Be sure to bring your favorite pen and journal. Students with no prior knowledge of an apparatus will be coached through movement and dance in an open space.

This is the last time that the Body (+) Language workshop will be offered for FREE. Starting in March, this workshop will cost $30.

Why did we switch to Arketa?

New Year's is all about the concept of "out with the old and in with the new" and we are embracing that sentiment here at Studieaux Heaux. The first big change of 2025 is to the software we use to fuel our scheduling and website. We have been with a company called Wellness Living for a long time now, and that time has come to an end. In the new year we are ushering in a partnership with Arketa.

Here is what you can look forward to with this new platform:

On-Demand Video Library

Did you miss that workshop? Couldn't come to the special class? Forgot how to do that skill you learned last week? All of this (and more) will (eventually) be available to all members in our On-Demand Video Library . The sky is the limit with the extra nuggets we will be able to provide for you.

Live Online Classes

In 2025 we will be bringing you all your favorite Studieaux Heaux signature classes LIVE and online (and then they will go in the On-Demand Video Library). If you can't make, no worries you can join at home. Gotta friend in Saskatoon who just can't make it to South Carolina anytime soon? No worries, they can join online. This feature is going to allow our amazing instructors to go global and I think the world is ready.

Communities

The Communities feature on Arekta is going to be a game changer for sure. Here's how it will work (just an example). Our Handstand class is once a month right now. It's a cool class, but what do you do the other 3 weeks? How can you hold yourself accountable to practice what you learn in class? That is where the communities come into play. We can create a Handstand community that is open for anyone who has taken the class to join. In this space we can post a weekly stretch or exercise that you can do at home to add to your training. We can also allow you to upload your videos for bragging rights to the group or for feedback. We can also have a specific handstand related chat group just between members to keep the conversation on point. The possibility for communities is endless and I am excited to think through how we can use the function to support you.

Brand New Website
Praise Be, we will be rolling out a brand new website with Arketa. A website that I have designed for the way Studieaux Heaux functions. It is easier to navigate AND so much easier for the world to find all that we offer. Our current website sort of hides all the good stuff making it difficult to find the private parties we offer, private training and even the events and workshops.

In general, I think this switch to Arketa is going to propel the studio and I am very excited. I admit that there will probably be bumps along the way, there always are, but the end result is going to be amazing.

New Class Alert: ALL Apparatus Creative Choreo

We have a bunch of new classes planned for Studieaux Heaux in the new year, but I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about one that affects everyone who takes a class on any apparatus: Pole, Silks, Sling, Lyra, Chair Dance or Twerk. If you have been wanting to work on your own choreography style, this class is for you.

What is this class?

This class is designed to help everyone work on their personal choreograph style. We will be using freestyle prompts, creative exercises and other out-of-the-box concepts to help you build a choreography that suits YOU! Come with a notebook to write down ideas (we sell a really cool journal for this purpose at Heaux Apparel), bring a song you think you might want to work with, and come with an open mind ready to explore.

Who is this class for?

This class is for any student working on any apparatus at Studieaux Heaux to include space and for Chair Dance, Twerk and any other discipline in the free space. It is also for any student at any level, as long as you are interested in learning to create your own choreography.

How will it work?

One instructor will guide all the students. We will work independently but also leave room for discussion and collaboration. Everything is better when we work together. Students will be asked to follow that particular days prompts, this is not an open studio where students get to practice. We will all be working from the same building blocks together.

This is class is a brand new idea and who knows how it is going to turn out. It might be a BOOM and it might be a BUST, but I gaurantee we will have fun along the way. I hope you will join us at 11:00 am on the fourth Saturday of each month. Starting on January 25, 2025.
